The Young Mind Clinic
Booking with us
You do not need a referral to see a psychologist, however if you wish to obtain a Medicare rebate, you can visit your GP or specialist paediatrician or psychiatrist to obtain an eligible Mental Health Care Plan.
Claiming through private health insurance generally does not require a referral, however you will need to confirm the conditions around private health claims for your particular policy with your private health insurer. To make an appointment, please phone the clinic on 02 9420 0896 or email the clinic.
WHAT TO EXPECT
If your child is under 16, it is likely that you will be asked to come in first for an initial consult without your child, to provide an opportunity to go through necessary background information (including, developmental and medical history, preschool and school adjustment, family situation factors and family history as well as important information regarding the presenting problem and history of the presenting problem).
This allows for frank and open discussion prior to engaging the child in the therapy process and also determines what might be the best next step (e.g. parent based sessions, individual therapy for child, psychometric or diagnostic assessment).
If your child is 16 and above (and occasionally if the child is younger, depending on issue and individual), you will be invited to attend with your child for the first consultation.
It is likely that you and your child will spend some time with the psychologist together and separately for this session.
Please let admin know when booking in if you have any mobility issues as there are some stairs to negotiate to enter the clinic.
We also offer Telehealth as an option (for which Medicare rebates may still apply as with in clinic consultations if your child has an eligible Mental Health Treatment Plan).
