Early last year the age of those able to claim rebates for complex neurodevelopmental items lifted
from age 13 to age 25. What are these items you ask? They pertain to assessing and treating a
whole host of complex neurodevelopmental conditions, one of these conditions being autism. A
doctor needs to refer the young person under these items for the client to access these rebates.
These are to be distinguished from the Better Access Scheme that facilitate people receiving up
to 10 rebates in a calendar year with a Mental Health Treatment Plan. More information can be
found about the scheme and how to refer or be referred under these items here: https://
