Child Psychologist Chatswood
Navigating the world as a young person can be challenging. For those dealing with social, emotional, and behavioural issues, these challenges may seem even more daunting.
At The Young Mind Clinic, our belief is that every child and teenager should have access to evidence-based therapy.
Our psychologists, with their experience and understanding of young people, are committed to offering personalised care. We strive to develop a supportive treatment plan tailored to their needs.

Our Approach to Supporting You
Our practice is exclusively focused on children, teenagers, and their families. We help young people recognise their abilities and adopt strategies to face life’s obstacles, and we guide parents and carers in creating positive and ongoing connections.
We provide therapy alongside thorough assessments for a range of challenges that can impact children and adolescents up to 18 years of age. These can include ADHD Assessment, Autism Assessment, and Psychometric Assessment.

Therapy and Treatment
Our treatment plans are built around evidence-based practices, addressing the specific challenges the young person is experiencing.
We utilise evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills (DBT Skills), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Strengths Based Approaches, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
We offer support in a relaxed and comforting environment designed to make you and your children feel at ease.

Assessments
Our services include assessments for ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), specific learning disorders (SLD), giftedness, and intellectual disability (ID), along with identifying cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses to support educational planning.
Our assessments aim to identify if one or more underlying factors are contributing to the difficulties the young person presents with. Each assessment is in-depth and includes screening for other possible causes or concerns.
Common Conditions We Help Address

Booking with us
You can see a psychologist without a referral, but to receive a Medicare rebate, you’ll need to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, specialist paediatrician, or psychiatrist.
A referral is not generally needed to claim through private health insurance, but you should confirm the details of your policy with your private health insurer.
You can book an appointment by calling the clinic on 02 9420 0896 or emailing admin@theyoungmindclinic.com.
What To Expect and How to Book
Booking an appointment does not require a referral, but if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need an eligible Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. Private health insurance rebates usually do not need a referral, though it’s important to confirm the specifics of your coverage with your insurer. For young people under 16, an initial consultation is usually held with one or both guardians, preferably with both attending if feasible. For separated families, separate consultations with each parent can be scheduled.
The goal of this is to obtain key background information, enable open communication, and plan the most suitable next steps. For children aged 16 and above, the initial session involves both the young person and their parent/s, often with time spent together and individually with the psychologist.
We provide Telehealth options. If attending the clinic in person, please notify us of any mobility issues as there are stairs at the entrance.
Book an appointment by contacting us here or by calling (02) 9420 0896.
