Manreena comes to us as both a provisional psychologist (and clinical psychology candidate) as well as a senior neuroscientist who completed her PhD 11 years ago at the Sydney University Brain and Mind Centre. Her thesis and work since then has primarily focused on the neurological aspects of mental health including completing post-doctoral research for the Youth Mental Health Research Program and the Brain and Mind Centre (Sydney Uni), lecturing and holding positions of research fellow at multiple universities in Sydney and Melbourne. Manreena decided to commence her clinical psychology training fuelled by the desire to connect more closely with clients and participate in the “human side” of her research. Manreena is not your average provisional psychologist. Her depth of understanding about a young person’s neurology provides her with a very unique perspective. My colleagues and I are excited to have Manreena on board here at TYMC and we look forward to learning as much from her as she does from us.
As a provisional psychologist, Manreena’s experience includes cognitive behaviour therapy with children and adolescents experiencing difficulties with anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder as well as conducting neuropsychological assessment for specific learning disorders. She has also facilitated group programs with young people and their parents focused around anxiety.
Manreena is currently able to take on a limited number of therapy and assessment clients. As a provisional psychologist, Manreena will be working closely with our Clinic Director, Sophie Smith, collaborating on all of her clients at TYMC. The clinic has a significant track record of providing training and support to psychologists and provisional psychologists, which we do as part of our commitment to the development of the profession and in service of our community.
