Child Psychologist Castlecrag
Being a young person navigating the world can be tough. For those facing social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties, the journey may feel even more overwhelming.
At The Young Mind Clinic, our belief is that every child and teenager should have access to evidence-based therapy.
With years of experience and an understanding of young people, our psychologists are dedicated to providing excellent care. We aim to create a supportive treatment plan specifically for them.

How We Can Assist You
We work solely with children, teenagers, and their families. Our team of psychologists supports young people in uncovering their strengths and developing skills to handle life’s challenges, while also empowering parents and carers to build lasting, supportive relationships.
Our services include therapy and detailed assessments for various issues that may influence children and adolescents up to the age of 18. These can include ADHD Assessment, Autism Assessment, and Psychometric Assessment.

Therapy and Treatment
We apply evidence-based strategies tailored to the unique difficulties faced by the young person.
We incorporate evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills (DBT Skills), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Strengths Based Approaches, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Our approach involves providing support in a calm and reassuring space to help you and your children feel at ease.

Assessments
We offer assessments for diverse issues, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), specific learning difficulties (SLD), giftedness, and intellectual disability (ID), as well as evaluations to uncover cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses for educational planning purposes.
Our assessments aim to identify if one or more underlying factors are contributing to the difficulties the young person presents with. Each assessment is in-depth and includes screening for other possible causes or concerns.
Common Conditions We Support
Regardless of whether your child is dealing with typical concerns, more pronounced symptoms, or already has a diagnosis, we are here to help. We support a range of difficulties, including but not limited to:
- Anxiety, including phobias, social anxiety, separation anxiety, generalised anxiety, and perfectionism

Booking with us
You can see a psychologist without a referral, but to receive a Medicare rebate, you’ll need to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, specialist paediatrician, or psychiatrist.
A referral is not generally needed to claim through private health insurance, but you should confirm the details of your policy with your private health insurer.
To arrange an appointment, contact the clinic on 02 9420 0896 or send an email to admin@theyoungmindclinic.com.
What To Expect and How to Book
No referral is necessary to book an appointment, but a Medicare rebate can be accessed by obtaining a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. For private health insurance rebates, referrals are generally not required, though you should verify your coverage details with your insurer. For young people under 16, an initial consultation is usually held with one or both guardians, preferably with both attending if feasible. For separated families, separate consultations with each parent can be scheduled.
This step helps gather crucial background information, promote open dialogue, and identify the best way forward. For young people 16 and older, the first session includes both the young person and their parent/s, with time allocated for joint and separate discussions with the psychologist.
We offer Telehealth options. If you plan to visit the clinic, please let us know about any mobility concerns, as the entrance has stairs.
